| I do not love you as if you were salt-rose or topaz, or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off. I love you as certain things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul. I love you as the plant that never blooms, but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers. Thanks to your love a certain fragrance, risen darkly from the earth, lives darkly in my body. I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where, I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride, so I love you because I know no other way than this: where "I" does not exist, nor "you," So close that your hand on my chest is my hand, So close that your eyes close and I fall asleep. -Pablo Neruda |

Human flesh, I feel strangled

You have a very natural eye for photography, and it's something of a crime for you not to go farther with it. Orin tells me you haven't had any formal kind of training, at least not alot. So, you just have a natural eye for great composition and I think training will push you to a whole 'nother level and you could make a very decent living at it!
My only suggestion just now would be to back of a little on photoshop effects on the photographs and let them stand with their own beauty and strength. A /little/ photoshop can make a picture punch, but too much and it's a step back ~.^ You should experiment with some black and white too! I'm a lover of black and white photography and you can learn alot from it!
Everything's looking wonderful and I hope to see you continue with this!Good luck with the scholarship!

having said that, its part of why i photoshopped things so much. i just got photoshop after wanting it for years and i did go a little overboard. for so long my pictures were all about me and experimenting with whatever cool stuff i could do. but i am chilling out on it a lot. now usually the only reason that i use photoshop is if a picture i really liked is blurry, then i do a few special effects to it and let it be. but thank you for being honest. i needed to hear that from another person instead of just me wondering if backing off on it was right.
i definitely need to do some black and white. im a person obsessed with color, if you cant tell by my self portraits, and ive been thinking for a bit that i need to try to do more black and white. thanks for reminding me. im gonna try it. ive only done like three ever, but ill try and do more. the problem is that i usually take pictures because of the colors in them so i have a hard time tearing myself away from those colors. black and white is so elegant and i really want to learn how to see it better.
really, thank you. this comment meant a lot to me. ^_^ i entered that photograph i have up for the scholarship into an art competition because my professor told me to. it was an old one i took on a whim and didnt even mean for it to look good. i thought it was just 'meh', but then i won. it wasnt until then that i realized i might actually be a good photographer. its nice to hear other people thin so. it keeps me going. ^_^ thank you.
if you want this [link] is where i sell my art. i just set it up and havent sold anything yet, but most anything on my deviant is for sale.
i also love your stuff. im pretty ok at drawing, i havent progressed in the last few years, even after really working at it, so i set it to the side to pursue other things. its not an easy thing and youre very good at it. anime is one of my favorite styles, and your talent is awesome. ^_^
As for starting with black and white, it can be very difficult to pick up, especially if you see in color. My suggestion is to get your hands on a digital camera with a black and white setting IN the camera and just start taking pictures. See how colors translate into the different grays. Even, try taking one of your existing photographs, bring it into photoshop, and desaturate it (or it does have a 'black and white' color option, there's very slight differences). One of my teachers told me something very useful in terms of black and white, if you can take a picture and turn it to black and still see the strength and depth of the image, then the image is going to be strong WITH the color.
I think black and white photography is very beautiful, it's like a whole different relm of color. I really hope you enjoy it!
And thank you! I've been drawing for a few years, but I still consider it a big work in progress. I'm never satisfied with what I have done so far, so it's encouraging to know that at least other people enjoy it. Like any form of art though, it's a passion, and you can only really properly focus on one form at a time. I use to play around with photography but then I got so attached to drawing that I had to leave it behind. Thank you very much! ^.^
